Living along the southern coast of Australia, and the entire coasts of Tasmania, and New Zealand is a tiny penguin known as the Fairy Penguin. See what we learn about God’s creation in Genesis 1:20 –
And God said, “Let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.”
Let’s look at a unique birds God created which does not fly through the air, but does “fly” through the sea -
- · Fairy Penguins are also known as Little Blue Penguins.
- · Measuring about 13 inches tall, 18 inches long and weighing just over three pounds Fairy Penguins are the smallest of all penguins.
- · Fairy Penguins have blue and white feathers, the tops of their feet are pink, and the bottoms of their feet are black.
- · Fairy Penguins are the only penguins which are able to lay and raise more than one clutch of eggs in their breeding season.
- · Their “poo” “sparkles” – this is due to undigested fish scales.
What do you think is the most interesting thing about Fairy Penguins? God designed them to be small and to be excellent parents. They show us we are able to believe God designed them on purpose, and He designed them to evolve to be “just right”.
Activity to Make the Point & Have Fun
Fairy Penguins have blue feathers and eyes and have a special oil which they use to cover their feathers to protect them from the water, so they stay warm and dry, so let’s work on a project which will help us remember how God designed Fairy Penguins “just right”. You will need . . .
- · Clear jar or glass
- · Vegetable oil
- · Blue food coloring
- · Water
Directions – 1. Fill jar/glass with water, leaving room to add the oil/food coloring 2. Add the oil and a few drops of food coloring 4. Watch what happens
As you work on this project, notice how the oil and water do not mix and talk about how God designed and created Fairy Penguins with the oil they need to protect themselves. They show us how God thinks about everything His designs need, and when we know this, we are better able to believe in Him and trust Him with confidence!
Think About This . . .
“Science and religion are harmonious when they are understood to be in a natural balance. In this view, nothing existed before God, and God created all things, including the natural order of which science has come to be the primary method of study. Under Theistic Evolution, the integration of science with religion provides a broader, more complete understanding of the universe, without compromising either religious beliefs or scientific findings.” — Ashley Anders.
